ORDER

Verification and stamping of weights or measures has been prescribed under Section 24 of the Standards of Weights & Measures (Enf) Act 1985. The weights or measures are required to be verified by the Inspector, Legal Metrology. The person having such weight or measure is required to present these weights or measures for verification at such place and during such hours as the controller may by general or specified order specify in this behalf.

The verification is at present being done by ILMs at Nine district Zonal Offices besides at Taxi Meter Unit for Taxi meters and at Calibration Unit for tank Lorries.

It has been noticed that various Zonal Offices are verifying the weights or measures at places other than Zonal labs without any specific orders or facilities available at the disposal of Zonal offices to carry out such verification at places other than Zonal Labs.

To avoid any ambiguity it is now hereby ordered that:

  1. Weights and Measures of all denominations shall be verified by ILMs at the Zonal Labs on designated ‘Lab days’.
  2. All the weighing instruments other than Platform Machines of capacity of 30kg or less shall be verified by ILMs at the Zonal Labs on designated ‘Lab days’
  3. All weighing instruments other than Platform Machines of capacity more than 30 Kg may be verified by ILMs at the site if so requested by the person concerned after charging the appropriate stamping fee.
  4. All the Platform machines of capacity 300 Kg or below shall be verified at Zonal Labs and Platform machines of capacity of more than 300 Kg may be verified by ILMs at the site if so requested by the person concerned after charging the appropriate stamping fee.
  5. The designated Lab days shall be on Monday, Thursday and Saturdays of the week.
